Underneath the Millenium Bridge

Underneath the Millenium Bridge
This is a photo from underneath the Millenium Bridge in London. We were on a cruise on the Thames, and when we passed under this famous Bridge, I grabbed a chance to take a photo from underneath.
This is a pedestrian only bridge, that jumped into controversy soon after opening, when it started vibrating dangerously. It was closed within 2 days, and then retro-fitted to make it safer.

A bird perched on the banks of the Thames

A bird perched on the banks of the Thames
This is just a random photo. I was just emerging from London Eye when I saw this bird perched on the wall on the banks of the Thames. Even when I moved close to take a photo, it did not fly off (must be used to hordes of toursist by now). As a result, I got this great photo.

A magical sunset on the River Thames

A magical sunset on the River Thames
I felt real good about shooting this photo. I like the color and explosion of light that seems to happen in a sunrise and sunset, and felt that way about this situation. So, here we a sunset over the Thames with the dying sun providing a strong source of light that shimmers over the water. You can also see the giant structure of the wheel of London Eye.

A memorial to the women of Britain during World War II
This photo is of a memorial to the Women of Britain in World War II. During the second world war, there was an acute shortage of people for the military, so women also pitched in to a large extent. In addition to the traditional roles of nursing and other support services, women actually formed part of the units that acted in the defense of Britain, including manning of anti-aircraft guns.

At sunset, you can see this bird perched on a small structure, outlined against the colors of the sunset. What you can see clearly is the contrails of a jet that must have passed just some time back.

The colors of a sunset
This is a photo that I took when we were leaving the Dover Castle. You can barely make out the contours of the historical castle against the low light level of the sunset. However, the colors of the sky, and the overall serenity make this a photo that I really like.
