In the Golden Temple, the Nishaan Sahib are actually 2 large ceremonial flagstaffs (and these are fairly large poles, since you can see the thickness at the base) mounted on marble platforms. In this photo, you can see that there is some restoration work going on at the Darshan Deori, and there are devotees everywhere, enjoying the serene calmness of the Golden Temple.

The Akal Takht, located outside the sarovar, is one of the most significant structures of the Golden Temple, and is the seat of the Sikh religion. This is also one of the most badly damaged structures during Operation Blue Star in 1984 (the killing of Bhindrawale and removal of terrorists from inside the Golden Temple) and large sections had to be reconstructed.

In a previous photo, I had shown some of the fishes inside the sarovar of the Golden Temple. In this photo, you can see a larger quantity of such fishes, and I am not able to confirm which species of fishes these are (although one site mentioned that these were carp). They do look attractive to the devotees who visit the place.

There is a 60 meter long causeway that leads from the Darshan Deori to the Darbar Sahib in the middle of the holy sarovar. In the searing heat, the water nearby has some cooling effect, and to ensure that the devotees do not suffer too much discomfort, there are fans all along the top of the causeway.

The holy tank in the Golden Temple complex contains a number of fish, and when you move close to the edge of the tank, you can see these fish frolicking, trying to get air and seeming to breathe air (although they get the air from their gills). Some of these fish are several inches long, but nobody was able to tell me the species of these fishes.

The center of the Golden Temple is located in the middle of the sarovar, with a perimeter of buildings around the sarovar (with white buildings). You can see a lot of devotees in the photo as well, doing a round of the perimeter. The sky seems a bit overcast, but this was a clear sky with lots of sun (and the camera turned down the glare).

Devotees and a volunteer at the Golden Temple in Amritsar at night
People visit the Golden Temple at morning, during the day, through the evening, and at night. In the night, there is a ceremony where the Guru Granth Sahib, the Holy Book of Sikhism is carried away from the Darbar Sahib for a few hours of rest, and a number of devotees want to take part in this ceremony. One great feature is the number of people who volunteer for service at the Golden Temple, and here you can see devotees with a saffron robed volunteer.
