As you get closer to the Golden Temple complex in Amritsar, you see the white structure that is the entry point for the complex. There are some trees in front, but otherwise there is a wide open space in front, with a few shops at the lower section of the complex; the gleaming white complex looks good.

Devotees and a volunteer at the Golden Temple in Amritsar at night
People visit the Golden Temple at morning, during the day, through the evening, and at night. In the night, there is a ceremony where the Guru Granth Sahib, the Holy Book of Sikhism is carried away from the Darbar Sahib for a few hours of rest, and a number of devotees want to take part in this ceremony. One great feature is the number of people who volunteer for service at the Golden Temple, and here you can see devotees with a saffron robed volunteer.
