Construction material at the entrance of the grand gate near the Karnak temple
With historical sites such as the Karnak temple at Luxor, there is a lot of repair and maintenance work that needs to happen on a regular basis so that the site remains as it should. Here, you can see samples of the construction material that are piled in front of the grand gates of the Karnak temple. It looks the same as the material from which the temple was built.

The excavation site near the Valley of the Kings protected by a chain link fence

The excavation site near the Valley of the Kings protected by a chain link fence
In many previous photos, I displayed photos that showed workers at an excavation site near the Valley of the Kings. It seemed a very open place; but given that is very rich in terms of history, there is some protection for the site. You can see a chain link fence that is the protection to ensure that unauthorized people cannot access the site.

Tents and animals, part of the support system of the excavation team

Tents and animals, part of the support system of the excavation team
For any excavation work, there is a need for a number of support items, such as machinery to carry away debris as well as being able to dig; and in many countries, beasts of burden are used for such tasks. In this photo, you can see animals carrying some equipment, as well as tents used for housing the members of the excavation team.

The entire Limestone hillside marked out as part of further excavation

The entire Limestone hillside marked out as part of further excavation
In this photo, you can see how the Limestone cliffs near the Valley of the Kings (outside Luxor) is marked with ropes, guide points, and so on' it seems like the entire hill has been marked for excavation. Excavating the tombs of even the workers can provide a lot of information about the living standard of that time.

Workers working on the hillside, on the limestone hills next to the Valley of the Kings, outside Luxor
When you look closely, you can see the various structures that show the restoration and excavation work ongoing at the limestone hills outside Luxor; there is always work happening there. It is recognized that there may be much more to find in the area, with tombs of some of the rulers of the period not having yet been found. Also, as the tombs of workers and nobles are found, they reveal more information of that era.

Workers, part of the restoration and excavation team, working on the tombs on limestone hills outside Luxor. This is an active and ongoing effort to find more ruins, more tombs, with the prize being the tomb of another pharaoh, or that of a noble from the time of the pharaohs.

Work happening on some tombs on the limestone cliffs near the Valley of the Kings, outside Luxor
This is a view of some work happening on the limestone hills near the Valley of the Kings, outside Luxor, in Egypt. It was not clear to me whether these were the entrances to some tombs, or whether these were the offices of the workers of the site, and located pretty close to the Valley of the Kings.

There is always some work going on in the limestone mountains near Luxor

There is always some work going on in the limestone mountains near Luxor
Many times in the past, archaeologists have believed that all the excavation work has happened in the Valley of the Kings, and there are no further tombs that are to be found. However, everytime this has been thought of, there have been more tombs that have been found. As a result, there is always some amount of work happening in the area (it is possible that some tombs are not found because their entrances have been lost due to landslides or floods).

Cairo Pyramid - Small structures (tombs and others) next to the Great Pyramid

Cairo Pyramid - Small structures (tombs and others) next to the Great Pyramid
In this photo, you get a glimpse of many smaller structures right next to the Great Pyramid. There are many workers around a specific structure, so could be some excavation or restoration happening nearby. You can also see a smaller pyramid in the background (smaller than the Cheops pyramid, but part of the complex of 3 huge pyramids).

Cairo Pyramid - the stones of a structure next to the Pyramid, with the fence being blurred
This is a view of a structure next to the Great Pyramid where there is some excavation going on. There was a fence blocking the view, and I had set it such that the focus was beyond the fence, so the metal structure is blurred.
